Target Audience & Prerequisites

This 2 day course is suitable for those who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations, illnesses, injuries & emergencies.

Course Outline

The Textile Centre of Excellence is a Qualsafe Approved Centre for course delivery.

This course covers the following areas:

  • Understanding the roles & responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant & child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant & child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant & child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant & child with external bleeding
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant & child who is suffering from shock
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant & child with anaphylaxis
  • Be able to administer first aid to an infant & child with injuries to bones, joints & muscles
  • Be able to administer first aid to an infant & child with head & spinal injuries
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears & nose
  • Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant & child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat & cold
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child who has sustained electric shock
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child with burns or scalds
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child who has been poisoned
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child who has been bitten or stung
  • Understand how to administer first aid to an infant & child with minor injuries
  • Understand how to complete records relating to illnesses, injuries & emergencies
  • Safe use of an AED (defibrillator)

Accreditation & Reward

Delegates attending the course will be assessed by the tutor throughout and will also need to complete 2 x multiple choice assessment forms. Following successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate accredited by Qualsafe.
