Course Overview:

The IOSH Managing Safely® course provides you with an overall understanding of your responsibilities when it comes to health and safety. Whether you are the team leader, supervisor, safety representative or shift manager, this flexible course is ideal for getting up-to-speed on current legislation, skills needed to assess risk and how to identify workplace hazards.

This highly practical programme offers a step-by-step guide to safety management and will allow users to gather, interpret and understand how to raise the standards of safety and health at work.

Candidate Suitability:

There are no entry requirements for this course however, learners should have a basic working knowledge of current safety requirements in the workplace or have specific responsibility for improving and managing safety standards.

This course is ideal for those with specific interest in, or responsibility for health & safety procedures and practices in the workplace. Likely attendees include shift supervisors, team leaders, managers and safety representatives.

Course Outline

This 4 day programme incorporates theoretical and practical skills, delivered in a relaxed classroom environment. The programme is delivered using a range of blended learning methodologies to ensure learner knowledge is developed and tested. Learners undertaking this programme will learn:

Health and Safety Law & Legislation Accident & Incident Investigation
Good Housekeeping Practices Measuring Performance
Assessment of Risk Protecting the Environment
Controlling Risk Practical Risk Assessment Techniques
Understanding your Responsibilities Choosing Risk Control Methods
Understanding & Identifying Hazards Accident Recording (RIDDOR)
Proactive and Reactive Safety Monitoring Waste, Pollution and Welfare
Safe Systems of Work and Work Permits Practical Risk Monitoring & Prevention

Assessment:

Assessment of this programme includes ongoing tutorial and observation, a work-based assignment on risk assessment and a 25 question multi-format test paper. Candidates must achieve a minimum score to ensure sufficiency in knowledge to complete and achieve this programme.

Progression Opportunities:

Some candidates may progress onto the NEBOSH General Certificate programme (where their job role allows). Other candidates may choose to follow our ILM Leadership & Management course opportunities. Further details available from the Centre.

Duration:

This programme runs for 4 days, starting at 9 am and finishing at 4.30pm. Lunch and refreshments are provided throughout the day for all learners.
